Compassionate Support on the Dementia Journey
Many caregivers and those living with dementia feel isolated and alone. They sometimes feel abandoned by friends or family. They lack an experienced and empathetic person who understands the dementia journey and is able to walk with them. They find it bewildering to navigate the myriad of challenges and unexpected changes that they are faced with on this daunting and difficult journey. Recognizing this lack of support inspired me to establish Cardinal Crossroads.
My mission is to offer an experienced, personal, and empathetic touch, serving you as a steadfast companion and guide. I have both personal and professional experience with dementia, and desire to ensure that that you don't have to walk this path alone.
My First-hand Experience as a Caregiver
The cardinal was the favorite bird of my mother Jean, who died in 2012 after an eleven-year battle with Alzheimer's. It was her journey that led me to make serving others with this disease one of my life purposes. I began as a volunteer with The Alzheimer’s Association in 2007. That translated into a position as the Regional Director for the West and Southwest part of Colorado in 2016. My primary responsibilities included educational presentations, support group facilitation and oversight, and providing individual care consultations to help people arrive at a plan for moving forward. I discovered the many gaps that exist in providing quality dementia care to those living with dementia and caregivers. One of the most pronounced is that many caregivers don't have anyone to serve as a support and resource person to help them navigate the unexpected challenges and changes on this difficult journey. It is with that in mind that I decided to launch Cardinal Crossroads, which provides an experienced, personal, and empathic touch to help companion and direct caregivers and those living with dementia navigate the labyrinth of this disease.
